AAT strategy: Securing future relevance to 2030

At AAT it’s our mission to make it possible for more people to experience the opportunities a career in finance brings, through our accessible qualifications and supportive community.

Real world ready

The world is changing fast and with it, so is the role of the accountant. With our qualifications and the support offered by the AAT community we’re working to make all our futures better.

Our new business strategy, focusing on shaping the future of accountants and the industry launched in 2023 and will take us through to 2030.

Our plan is built around three overarching themes.

1. Keeping our profession relevant

We have a vital role to play in advocating for our profession. Through supporting individuals joining and those already engaged to stay relevant, we'll ensure many can benefit from these changes.

2. Driving up professional standards

Central to AAT’s role, as both an awarding and a professional body, is a commitment to raising standards and upholding professional ethics within the accountancy profession. The ultimate impact we are seeking is greater trust and confidence in the profession from the public.

3. Building responsible business

AAT has a clear remit to act in the public interest. As a professional membership organisation, we can enact and inspire societal change, both through our own business activity and by demonstrating leadership to our community.

It will be delivered through four core strategies.

1. Community

We’ll put our dynamic, inclusive community at the heart of every decision we make.

2. Partnerships

We’ll develop and grow our effective partnerships with governments, professional bodies, training bodies and employers.

3. Digital innovation

We'll apply a digital first approach.

4. Evidence-based decisions

We’ll consult diverse perspectives and leverage data effectively in our decision-making and share our insights with the profession.

It’s designed to progress our ambition for greater global relevance and recognition of accounting technicians.

Our results

We’ve set eight key commitments that our 2030 plan will result in. These are all focused around enhanced recognition of accounting technicians, increasing the number of learners who progress through the qualifications, enhancing the improvements we’re making towards societal change and commitments to sustainable business practices and increasing the number of employers and businesses demanding and benefiting from engaging with professional members of the AAT community.
