David Frederick - President of AAT

David Frederick has been installed as AAT’s 40th President, succeeding John Thornton in the role.

He will remain AAT President until September 2021, with Heather Hill taking over his role as Vice President.

David began his career working as a trainee accountant in the public sector, before becoming a senior then principal lecturer and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) course director at London Metropolitan University, a role he held for 18 years lecturing on professional, undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He also worked as an examiner for the Chartered Governance Institute (previously known as The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) and London South Bank University, and has been an AAT Council member since 2014.

Since 1995, David has been the sole Managing Director at Marcus Bishop Associates, providing specialist probate services and managing a team providing accountancy and business support services to personal and business clients, including medical professionals and property clients.

David is a published author, having written four accountancy books and co-authored a further two. Additionally, he writes a monthly financial column in Financial Matters magazine and has written business and financial articles for a range of other publications. He also has extensive experience as a public speaker and as a non-profit distributing organisation trustee and board member.

Following his appointment, David said: “I am incredibly honoured to have been elected President of AAT.

“I’ve very much enjoyed my time as Vice President, particularly meeting members and students and supporting John in his role. I look forward to working closely with Mark and the senior management team to help steer the future direction of the organisation, and to represent AAT throughout the coming year. With businesses across the world going through a time of significant change, I look forward to leading AAT in meeting these challenges and finding new opportunities, as well as continuing to have a real impact on the lives of students past and present in the UK and around the world.”
