International partnerships
We recognise that the best solutions come from combining knowledge and expertise, so we focus on building relationships with local organisations to develop finance skills on a global scale.
We're working with local organisations to provide tailored solutions to support local talent and economic development. With a number of internationally focused partnerships in place, we’re committed to extending the reach of AAT and developing highly skilled accountants and finance staff around the world.
Botswana
We offer AAT Accounting Qualifications in Botswana to over 2,000 students per year, our largest body of students outside the UK. Our work with the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) gives people in Botswana the opportunity to gain practical skills to help progress their careers in finance, and support the local economy.
Our next steps in Botswana include discussions with BICA about how our qualifications can be developed in the future.
New Zealand
Through our partnership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), AAT qualifications are recognised and accepted as a route into CA ANZ's Accounting Technician membership.

Exemptions
Completing an AAT qualification can provide exemptions with the following bodies:
- Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
- Certified Public Accountants Ireland (CPA Ireland)
- The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC)
- The Malaysia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).
Reciprocal membership agreements
We offer various routes to membership through our reciprocal agreements with other professional membership bodies. If you're a member of any of the following bodies, you may be eligible to apply for AAT professional membership:
- National Institute of Accounting Technicians (NIAT)
- The Society of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo (SCAAK)
- The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)
In 2012, AAT was the first accounting technician body to become a full member of IFAC. Through this relationship we've been able to work with professional bodies around the world to help strengthen the accounting profession.
We're very proud to have worked with IFAC to develop a framework which outlines the role of an accounting technician in the global accounting profession.
